For a very smooth surface use a foam roller to apply the gesso. The lighter the pressure the smoother the surface. For a rougher texture press harder with a foam roller.
These are light weight sponge rollers with delicate handles, Handle them carefully.
Wash the rollers immediately after use, and put them to dry. Do not use hard chemicals to wash the rollers.
